AVM John Erempagamo Aprekuma (NAF/1320) an indigene of Nembe, Nembe Local
Government Area of Bayelsa State was born on 29 March 1957. He enlisted into
the Nigerian Air Force in July 1978 as a member of 24 Regular Course and was
commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1981. He is presently the Air Officer Commanding
(AOC) Mobility Command, Nigerian Air Force with the Headquarters at Yenagoa.
His previous appointments include Principal Monitoring Officer (PMO) PIMT,
Headquarters Nigerian Air Force Lagos, Commander National Air Defence Corps,
Nigerian Air Force Ikeja, Commander 88 Military Airlift Group Ikeja and Air Officer
Commanding Training Command Nigerian Air Force, Kaduna. |

He has the following academic qualifications: West Africa School Certificate,
obtained from the Nigerian Military School, Zaria in 1974, Nigerian Defence
Academy Certificate of Education and General Certificate of Education “A”
level obtained from the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna in 1980.
In addition, he also has a Commercial Pilots License obtained in 1994. He holds a
Bachelor of Art degree in International Studies obtained from the Lagos State
University and a Master degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.
Military institutions/courses he has attended with dates include the Primary Flying
Training Course at 301 FTS Kaduna, 1981-1982, Basic Flying Training Course at 303 FTS
Kano,1982-1983 and Basic Transport Flying Conversion Course at 301 FTS Kaduna 1984-1985.
Other courses he has attended are the C-130H ac Co-Pilot Conversion Course, USA 1986,
C-130H ac Captaincy Upgrade Course, Lagos 1992 and C-130H ac Instructor Pilot Course, USAF,
Little Rock, Arkansas 2003. The various NAF aircraft types he has flown include; Bulldog,
L-29 Delphin, DO-28, DO-128-6 Sky servants and C-130Hercules ac.
The Staff courses attended include Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, in 1990 for
the Junior Staff Course and the Senior Staff Course 1997-1998. He also attended the National
War College as a member of course 15 and an inductee of the fellow of the war college. He has
over 7,500 flying hours on various NAF ac types and has flown to over 30 countries in Africa,
Europe, Middle East and Far East. In addition, the senior officer has participated in various
peace keeping/peace enforcement operations such as; ECOMOG Ops Liberty, Liberia, Ops Sandstorm,
Sierra Leone, UNAMSIL, UNAMIL, UNMIR Rwanda, and the ongoing AU later UN mission in Sudan. He
has been awarded the Fss, Mss, Dss and ECOMOG medals. He is married to Chioma and blessed with
2 sons. His hobbies include, playing golf, swimming and watching documentary films.
