AIR MARSHAL AKIN DADA (1992 – 1993) |
Air Marshal Akin Dada was born in Lagos on 7 June 1943. He hails from Ipoti–Ekiti
in Ijero Local Government of Ekiti State. He had his secondary school education
in Kuru, Plateau State. On graduation, he enlisted into the NAF on 1 July 1964.
He then proceeded to India where he trained on various aircraft types.
On his return, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on 29 October 1966. In 1969,
Air Marshal Dada attended a flying training course in Egypt. This was followed by
other training courses in the United Kingdom between 1972 and 1974; a conversion
course on the Fokker 27 aircraft in Holland; and a conversion course on the C-130
Hercules aircraft at Lockheed, USA between 1975 and 1976. On 8 June 1979, he went
to the USA for his Command and Staff Course at Maxwell, Alabama. |

He also attended the USAF Air War College between 19 May 1989 and 30 May 1990. His
flying experience includes various combat missions during the civil war, the United
Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in Lebanon, Special Operations under the auspices
of the OAU Liberation Committee during the Zimbabwean struggle for independence
and the series of Nigerian and OAU peace-keeping efforts in Chad. Air Marshal Dada
held various senior and command positions in the NAF before his appointment as CAS.
These include: Commander ATG in 1984, Senior Air Staff Officer, MAC, June 1988;
Director of Operations HQ NAF, February 1989; Air Officer Commanding
Tactical Air Command, September 1990 and Air Officer Operations December 1991. He became
CAS on 31 January 1992 and retired from military service in 1993.
Air Marshal Dada was honoured with the Commander of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria
(CFR), National Defence Medal and the Republic Medal. |
