the Federal School of Science, Lagos.
He began his military
career in the Nigerian Air Force on 7 August 1963 as an Officer
Cadet. Subsequently, he was sent to Germany where he undertook military and flying

On his return to the force in 1986, he was appointed the Air Officer Commanding
the Tactical Air Command (TAC) of the NAF. It was during his tenure as AOC TAC that
the most elaborate display of air power capability in the history of the NAF was
exhibited during the 1988 NAF Day Celebration. Soon after that, he became
the Air Officer Operations at NAF Headquarters from where he was appointed as the ninth
CAS on 29 December 1989.
He retired from military service in January 1992.
A humane person and an enthusiastic
sportsman, Air Marshal Yussuff strove to uphold the essence of Service discipline
and training with a view to achieving a high level of professionalism. He is noted
to be the first NAF officer to have produced an officer son who like his father
was a fighter pilot on the MiG 21. Unfortunately, Flying Officer Babatunde Yussuff
died prematurely in a MiG 21 crash in Maiduguri on 13 May 1983. Air Marshal Yussuff
in retirement is running a private business outfit. |
