HONOURABLE MINISTER OF DEFENCE COMMISSIONS NEW NIGERIAN AIR FORCE OFFICE BLOCK, CENOTAPH AND AMBULANCES
The Nigerian Air Force added a new feather to her cap recently when she commissioned her new extension office complex, fifteen new state of the art medical ambulances and a fallen heroes’ cenotaph all at once at the HQ NAF Abuja.

The special Guest of Honour at the commissioning, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Haliru Mohammed commended the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal MD Umar for his sagacity and efforts for raising the Nigerian Air Force to a higher level.  

Dr Bello Haliru Mohammed elated by what he saw declared “It is a matter of pride for me as Minister of Defence to see such state-of-the art memorial housed in such an impressive building. I have no doubt that the facilities are so modern as would be found anywhere in the world. Along with the other developments here at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force. The efforts reflect a forward looking organization clearly equipped for the challenges of the future. I am aware that they represent only a fraction of the work that has been undertaken over the last few months. I want to compliment the Chief of Air Staff and everyone associated with the planning and delivery of the projects. I am sure that you are all extremely happy with the fruits of your labour today”

The Minister also disclosed that the events of recent weeks had demonstrated once again the importance of strong, modern and proactive military to preserve peace and territorial integrity of the country. The Special Guest of Honour also said there was no gainsaying the fact that the military had a major role to play in the transformation agenda of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal MD Umar, disclosed that the ongoing modernization of facilities and the improvement in accommodation in the barracks nationwide despite a difficult economic climate is a pointer to the Federal Government commitment to the future of the Service. These efforts, the Chief stated “Contributed in a very positive way to the morale and espirit-de corps of the personnel”.

The occasion was attended by Honourable Minster of State for Defence, Erelu (Dr) Olusola Agbaje Obada, Minister of State for Works, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff and several other personalities within and outside the armed forces.
