Born in Lagos, Air Vice Marshal
Cyril Onugha hails from Nkwerre, Imo State. A
distinguished, erudite and professional
gentleman, Air Vice Marshal Cyril Onugha
attended the Yaba College of Technology Lagos.
He started his Military career as a regular
combatant Air Force cadet in the Nigerian
Defence Academy Kaduna and was commissioned a
Pilot Officer in 1975. He was at the 301 Flying
Training School, Nigerian Air Force Base Kaduna
for his initial pilot training. Further flight
training was in the United Kingdom, United
States of America and Germany. A seasoned pilot,
AVM Onugha's license qualifies him to fly
military and civil air planes in Nigeria and
United States of America.
Air Vice Marshal Onugha who attended the Command
and Staff College, Montgomery Alabama in USA is
an alumnus of this great College, the National
War College Abuja. His academic qualifications
include Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Business
Administration. He also holds a Master of
Science (MSc) degree in Strategic Studies from
the University of lbadan and his military
qualification include psc and fwc.
Air Vice Marshal Onugha's appointments include:
OIC Cadets at NAF GTG Kaduna, in 1976. Three
times service appointment at the Executive Air
Group (EAG) now the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF)
in various capacities; the last tour was from
1992 - 1994 as Commander. AVM Onugha
respectively served in both the Armed Forces
Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji and the
National War College (NWC) Abuja as Directing
Staff. He also commanded the strike group of the
Nigerian Air Force in Makurdi in 2000. He was
the Director of Operations, Headquarters,
Nigerian Air Force between 2003 and August 2007.
Presently he is the Air Officer Inspections,
Nigerian Air Force. He is also the Technical
Adviser to the Honorable Minister of Aviation.
Air Vice Marshal Onugha has a total flying time
of 5,700 hours to his credit. A proud recipient
of the Eustace Loraine Brooke Trophy award for
emerging the best Flight Student at the Royal
Air Force (RAF) flying school in the United
Kingdom in 1976, he was decorated with the
Distinguished Service Star and the OAU Peace
Medal for operating in Chad. He was also awarded
the psc (+) and fwc.
Air Vice Marshal Onugha is married with four
kids and loves golf, reading and cooking.
